Serena Casey

Advisory Board Member

Serena Casey is an innovative community organizer and permaculture designer with Water Is Life Design (WILD), a permaculture landscape design company based in southern Arizona. A native of Bisbee Arizona who lived in rural Mexico as a young adult, Serena was inspired to refuse many of the wasteful practices of standard American life when she returned. She earned an associate’s degree in business from University of Phoenix in 2007, and in 2008 took her first permaculture course, with Cathé Fish. Determined to promote sustainable living in her community, she opened the Ecoasis Sustainable Living Center in 2009 and began designing community programming and volunteering with many boards and commissions, including the Bisbee Sustainability Commission, Bisbee City Council, Baja AZ Sustainable Agriculture, Naco Wellness Initiative, and others. In 2014, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Community Development and Human Health from Prescott College. She went on to found Community Synergy Solutions Corp (CSSC), a grassroots development non-profit based in Cochise County, where she spearheaded a community garden, alternative health expos, and other programs and projects. Serena completed her Permaculture Design Certification with the Sonoran Permaculture Guild in the spring of 2024, joining Rudy Poe as a partner in WILD. Her biggest accomplishment yet has been building a family with her husband, Joe Casey, in Hereford, Arizona. Her favorite activity is tending to her vast edible gardens with her children. As a mother of five and a lover of nature, she is excited about improving community and ecological health through her thoughtful regenerative site designs so that future generations may have the opportunity to thrive and experience the joy of living as a part of nature’s great purpose!
